Laser Susan (redux) is an interactive light experience developed by myself and Dina Herring for the Exploratorium's annual After Dark "Glow."
Originally created as a small scale interactive experience, Laser Susan allows for an intimate view of light, motion and the passage of time.
In addition to the Laser Susans, Dina and I decided to expand our original idea to a more immersive room scale experience, now equipped with an ultra violet laser pendulum and phosphorescent floor.
Because we were using an enclosed space, we were also able to install an overhead camera and projector to mirror the physical light trails in digital form. We then gave users control over which filtered modes were active and allowed video switching (VJ-ing) to be part of the overall experience.
Ultimately how visitors decide to express themselves and explore is up to them. Users complete the experience.
