Two years ago I hiked the Grand Canyon with my brother and father for his 70th birthday. None of us had ever been there before.
The drive to the North Rim is 200 miles from the South Rim and takes over 4 hours. Much more remote than the South Rim, the North side of the canyon is quite a destination in itself.
It is a bit harder to geographically orient from the North Rim, you exchange one’s all encompassing OMG view, for a more intimate approach to the canyon.
As you lower yourself into the canyon, you travel back in time, exploring the underbelly of the earth.
While it’s impossible not fall in the love with the grandness of the canyon, it’s sometimes the contrast with small details that steal the show.
At night it’s easy to forget your at the bottom of a canyon.
